Voltalia South Africa (Pty) Ltd is applying for environmental authorisation (EA) for the construction and operation of three (3) Solar Photovoltaic (PV) facilities and associated infrastructure, near Secunda, Mpumalanga Province.
The project entails the development of the proposed Umlando 1, 2 and 3 Solar PV facilities, within a 1285 ha assessment area, which will generate up to 440MW of electrical power through photovoltaic (PV) panels. The PV facilities will be located on the Remaining Extent and Portion 1 of Farm Ruigtekuilen 129 and Portion 10 of Farm Winkelhaak 135, situated within the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality area of jurisdiction. The town of Secunda is located ~12 km south-east of the proposed development, while Evander is located ~5km to the south-east.
